I've been lucky enough to combine a healthcare and teaching career with my passion for dogs and cats and have a wealth of experience in cat care, dog care and pet welfare. I have volunteered with a number of charities including Medical Detection Dogs, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, the Blue Cross, Dog's Trust, and Cat's Protection League.
Before setting up this Witney dog walking and pet care service, I worked for several years as a welfare assistant at Trindledown Farm centre for elderly animals, part of the National Animal Welfare Trust south of Oxfordshire, providing cat and dog care, dog walking, grooming, and administering medication. There was an on site vet who trained staff in good healthcare and it was a great opportunity to learn about the specialist needs of older dogs and cats. I left National Animal Welfare Trust to volunteer for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, socializing and training puppies such as Ivan (shown in the icon) who went on to become a much loved hearing dog.
I volunteered for Medical Detection Dogs for circa ten years, a wonderful charity that trains dogs to support people with life threatening conditions. This involved caring for pups 24/7 and building up their confidence through ongoing socialization, teaching obedience prompts, and dealing with a range of behaviour issues as well as helping to develop scent discrimination through scent games. The video below shows Pal, a diabetic alert dog, who I was lucky enough to socialize and train until circa 18 months old.
My Witney-based animal family includes Dudley, an adopted hearing dog who didn't quite make the grade and retired hearing dog Edith, I studied applied psychology as part of my masters degree. I have an NVQ 3 in care and have undertaken medication handling and first aid training. I have an Advanced Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour. Please don't hesitate to contact me about dog walking witney, pet services and one to one puppy and cat care visits.
